Voluntary social year and internship

Every year, the Grafeneck Memorial offers one voluntary social year/federal volunteer service position.

By completing a voluntary social year at the memorial, you can gain an in-depth insight into the various areas of our work at the memorial and take on a variety of tasks. You can support the staff in the areas of research and documentation, help maintain the collection, and learn about the educational work.

Internship

The team at the Grafeneck Memorial is looking for new members– we would be delighted if you would do an internship with us!
Grafeneck Castle, located 60 kilometers south of Stuttgart on the Swabian Alb, was the first of six extermination centers of the so-called “Aktion T4” in the German Reich. From January to December 1940, 10,654 people were murdered here.
Today, Grafeneck is the central memorial site for the 10,654 victims of the Nazi “euthanasia” crimes. Since 1990, the memorial has been a place of remembrance, which was supplemented in 2005 by the documentation center as a place of information. The memorial sees itself as a place of remembrance, a research and documentation center, a source of information, and an educational institution for historical and political outreach.
During an internship, you can get to know the memorial, learn more about the subject matter, and gain insight into the various fields of work at the memorial.

Tasks during an internship:

  • Maintenance of the library, archives, and collection
  • Maintenance of the database Victim and perpetrator biographies
  • Insight into educational work: participation in seminars and workshops at the memorial site
