Researching the names of those murdered in Grafeneck has been one of the core tasks of the Grafeneck Memorial since its establishment. The book of names has been publicly accessible at the memorial since 1998. Following the last update in fall 2025, the book of names now contains approximately 9,600 names. Research will continue in the future and the book of names will be updated annually.
The names of the victims are listed in alphabetical order. Additional information such as date of birth or place of birth has been omitted. Where known, this data is only accessible to relatives and for official and scientific purposes.
The book of names book is also available in print and can be viewed at the Documentation Center. In addition, a second edition of a book of places contains the origin of the victims, has been available since 2015 and can also be viewed at the Documentation Center.
Over the past two decades, a large number of initiatives have been launched with the support of the memorial to search for traces of the victims. Counties, cities, and municipalities, as well as Stolperstein initiatives, requested the names and reconstructed the victims’ lives. Clinics and institutions for the disabled, where the victims were patients or residents, found ways to commemorate and remember them on site.
The crimes of “euthanasia” have a particularly profound impact on the family histories of people who lost (great-)grandparents, mothers or fathers, sisters or brothers, daughters or sons in Grafeneck.
